Stage type: Hilly

What to expect: The last stage before the first rest day seems likely to come down to a sprint, but the Giro sees its fair share of surprise breakaway successes on stages like this, and what’s more, the late lumps could whittle down the group a bit or even spur attacks on the run-in to Naples. We’ll see …

Fantasy favorites: If this stage ends in a bunch kick, Jonathan Milan is the favorite with Tim Merlier and Kaden Groves as the riders most likely to challenge him. Olav Kooij and Phil Bauhaus could be in the mix as well. If you’re a fantasy player, you could also roll the dice on a breakaway rider, and maybe Julian Alaphilippe, Jhonatan NarvΓ‘ez, or Filippo Ganna will like their chances on this route, but this feels like the sort of stage where a long-range winner would be one of the less obvious names, so it’s hard to be confident about anyone for a breakaway victory.
