Role: Tech Editor
We seek a creative writer and reporter who wants to bring their passion for bicycle equipment and technology to a worldwide audience. The ideal candidate lives and breathes bikes, loves tinkering, and can translate their zeal into writing, audio, and video. An underlying knowledge and interest in this beat is more important to us than degrees or formal qualifications.

Job Responsibilities:
- Produce world-class, in-depth reviews of the products our members and audience care most about
- Stay on top of tech- and equipment-related news and trends
- Provide unique, high-quality coverage of significant events
- Appear on podcasts and, occasionally, video
- Represent Escape Collective at tech events worldwide
Experience and skills:
- Broad background knowledge of bicycle tech, including road, mountain, gravel, cyclocross, and urban disciplines
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and experience (shop experience preferred)
- Comfortable expressing opinions and capable of backing them up with evidence
- Strong writing skills with a distinctive voice
- Excellent grasp of English grammar and usage and an ability to produce clean copy and hit deadlines
- Proficient in still photography
- Comfortable on video and podcasts
- Experience using Adobe editing products (Photoshop, Lightroom)
- Experience working in content management systems (CMS), particularly WordPress
- Comfortable working with a global team across multiple time zones via tools like Slack
- An infallible sense of personal integrity
- Please note that while relevant experience is highly preferred, it’s also not required

Pay
Salary range of US $35,000 to $65,000 depending on experience. Individuals outside of Australia work as contractors and anybody US-based will receive a health care stipend.

Role: Industry Reporter/Podcaster

Escape Collective seeks a bike industry journalist who has the ability to identify stories, trends, and questions that nobody else is asking across the entire supply chain and turn those into best-in-class industry reporting.
The ability for deep reporting on industry topics such as sustainability, governance, fair work, culture, M&A, financial reporting that is relevant to small, medium and large business. Doing so fairly, respectfully and accurately is paramount.
The audience for this type of reporting is our current Escape members, consumers who care to go deeper than press release flips, and the bike industry itself. Doing this in a way that is intelligent yet accessible for various audiences is extremely important.
The successful candidate will need to have a wealth of contacts within the cycling industry, be respected by everyone from bike shop owners to senior leaders, and understand the landscape and dynamics of day to day business with the ability to zoom out. Being critical and getting input from multiple sources when required is what will set our reporting apart.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in the cycling industry (e.g. brand, PR, or media) and have a unique lens on which to report through. Formal qualifications or experience as a journalist is not required, however a good understanding of reporting ethics and a desire to keep learning is needed.

- Provide unique, high-quality coverage of significant events
- Host a weekly podcast and, occasionally, video
- Represent Escape Collective at trade events worldwide with the ability to travel
Experience and skills:
- 10+ years of industry experience in intermediate to senior roles across various sizes of companies
- Understanding of journalistic ethics and reporting standards
- A vast network of industry professionals
- Comfortable expressing opinions and capable of backing them up with facts
- Strong writing skills with a distinctive voice on podcasts
- Excellent grasp of English grammar and usage and an ability to produce clean copy and hit deadlines
- Comfortable on video and podcasts
- Experience working in content management systems (CMS), particularly WordPress and Mailchimp.
- Comfortable working with a global team across multiple time zones via tools like Slack
- Understanding of how to promote and extend content to social media and the strengths/weaknesses of the various platforms.
