Yep, it’s that time of year when we start sharing the products that left the biggest impression on us, and you think, ‘goodness, end of the year, already?’
Not to get too personal, but 2025 was a bit of a beat-down year. Health woes in the family are never fun and I sure felt that time and time again. Still, amongst that and the daily reminder of global tensions, I found regular happiness spinning spanners on bikes and occasionally riding them, too. How good are bikes?
My product picks for this year are a mix of big and small. Easily affordable and less so. Still, the common theme throughout is smart design, good execution, and functionality that either made my riding experience better, or raised the quality of my work in the workshop.

Mons Royale Tarn Merino Wind jersey
It’s been almost 10 years since I first started wearing Merino wool undies and mountain bike tops from this New Zealand-based mountain sports outfit. Last year, I was headed to Iceland and expecting all hell to break loose with the weather, and I bought a few items in anticipation of precipitation. It turned out to be a rare pocket of perfect weather, and this jersey didn’t get a run until winter hit back home.
This long-sleeve mountain bike top mixes Mons Royale’s usual lightweight Merino wool material with the addition of a thin wind-blocker front panel. The jersey is wicking, breathable, low stink, and comfy all over.
While I’ve long used jackets and vests with a similar concept, this thin long-sleeve top has proven great for chilly (approx 6-14 ºC / 43-57 ºF) gravel and mountain bike rides where I’m moving but also want a little insulation. It modulates temperature impressively well, is easy to wear, and is one less layer to wash versus achieving a similar effect with a rear-vented vest (gilet).
