Broken collarbone confirmed for Lipowitz after stage 16 crash

Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe has confirmed that its co-leader Florian Lipowitz broke his collarbone in the crash that ended his Tour de France on stage 16.

Lipowitz was on track for a top-five finish after a lightning fast descent in the middle section of the individual time trial that kicked off the final week, but as he took the first turn in the finish town of Thonon-les-Bains, he slide out and crashed hard against the kerb and into the barriers. The incident ended Lipowitz's second Tour de France, 12 months after he finished third at the 2025 race.

The 2025 podium finisher was having a very very good day, on track for a top-5 stage finish – but then a nasty high-speed crash ejected him from the Tour de France.

He leaves behind a team that endured mixed fortunes on stage 16 as Remco Evenepoel took his second consecutive stage win, and solidified his second-place overall, with fives stages to go.
