Now that Simon Yates (Visma-Lease a Bike) has wrapped up the 2025 Giro d'Italia, the rider and team that seemed destined to win the race right up until everything collapsed spectacularly on stage 20 have offered some insight into their thinking. Isaac del Toro defended his approach to the climactic mountain battle in an interview on Sunday, but UAE Team Emirates-XRG sports director Fabio Baldato and team boss Mauro Gianetti both acknowledged that mistakes were made.
