Road Gallery: Roadside randoms of the 2023 Tour de France – week 2
Another Tour de France gallery with barely a bike to be seen.
This time last week we shared a gallery full of ‘roadside randoms’ from the first week of the Tour de France – photos of the many spectators that line the course, waiting for the Tour to come past.
Today, on the second rest day, we have another such gallery for you, this time focusing on the second week of racing; stages 10 through 15. The photos you see below come mostly from Ashley & Jered Gruber, but there are a few photos from Kristof Ramon thrown in as well. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the mini-interview with Ashley and Jered in part 1 , in which they explain their love of this sort of photography and how they go about it.
Enjoy!
Watching a bike race in person often means lots of waiting around, as these young ‘uns are just finding out.
As above.
I suddenly find myself wondering what utter madness Riccardo Riccò is up to these days.
“You have my heart, and we’ll never be worlds apart …
“… Maybe in magazines, but you’ll still be my star …
“… Baby, ’cause in the dark, you can’t see shiny cars. And that’s when you need me there, with you I’ll always share.” (Unless the umbrella isn’t big enough for all of us.)
“Today’s family get-together is brought to you by E.Leclerc – throwing spotted shirts at kids since forever.”
I’m gonna hazard a guess and say those drinks were being handed out by the publicity caravan.
“From drab to fab! You too can turn your lifeless house-bunker into a celebration of the world’s biggest bike race. Just add some balloons!”
A slightly more picturesque backdrop. Those bloody shirts though.
“Nowhere else I’d rather be. Nowhere at all. Having a great time.”
Publicity caravan merchandise everywhere you look.
This is the way to do it. Family picnic on a warm summer’s day, with a bit of bike racing on the side as a bonus. Top job, folks.
This is the cover art for old mate’s next album and you can’t convince me otherwise. Someone please photoshop a title and artist name on there and send it over.
“When the sun shines, we’ll shine together, told you I’ll be here forever …
“… Said I’ll always be your friend, took an oath, I’ma stick it out to the end …”
“… Now that it’s raining more than ever, know that we’ll still have each other …”
“You can stand under my umbrella … Ella? Ella! Hey? Hey?! Hey!! I’m not using it right now – it’s all yours.”
Once you start seeing those E.Leclerc shirts, you can’t stop seeing them.
No, the race didn’t pop over to Corsica while you weren’t looking. Yes, those arm tattoos are pretty great.
The pipe is obviously very good, but I’m curious about the rope that’s holding something up, out of shot. What could it be? Is that where our friend on the hay bale is looking?
Next year she’ll be happy just watching it on TV.
Hooray, some people that actually look happy to be at the race!
Ah, back to business then.
How do we feel about the colour of those Skoda hats? Better or worse than the new green jersey ?
Left: Nice of Miles Scotson to pop down and support the boys.
Inspired by the photos on either side of him, Pieter (centre) decided he’d put it off long enough: it was time to have a crack at the modelling career he’d always dreamed about.
Quintessential Tour de France roadside scene: older couple, campervan holiday, Tour-themed decorations, and a bit of sponsor gear from the publicity caravan to cap it off. Perfect.
Gotta get that #content. The family chat will be so jealous.
MURICA! Of course he’s got an airhorn.
The guy on the right just managed to get tickets for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour show in Oslo. Look how happy he is after spending the entire day in the online lobby. He couldn’t tell you what’s happening in the bike race.
I’d love to see the stats on how many E.Leclerc polka dot shirts are thrown to fans each July.
Not sure which is more offensive: the tight, white bodysuits, or the socks and sandals combination.
Oh look, more E.Leclerc shirts.
I wouldn’t be devastated if the whole “bring your chainsaw to a bike race” thing just stopped immediately.
That’s one way to keep yourself from getting burnt. Again the socks and sandals though.
Ne le fais pas, Audrey.
Did we do a good job with this story?
👍 Yep
👎 Nope
