George Hincapie's rumored project to launch a new American bike racing team is no longer just a rumor. Modern Adventure Pro Cycling, named for a Portland-based travel company that has signed on as title sponsor, was announced on Monday.

No rider signings have been announced yet, but highlights from the nascent squad's first press conference – headlined by the prominent former pro racer – included the unveiling of the team's bike sponsor and some lofty goals. Factor will provide bikes for the Hincapie-led team, which is targeting a Tour de France invite within next several years.

"I'm very excited, nervous, anxious to be embarking on this project, but most of all very passionate, to be starting what we feel like to be a renaissance of American cycling and building," Hincapie said in a press conference to officially unveil the team. "We hope to be America's dream team racing in the Tour de France in hopefully five years or less."

The team later sent a press release clarifying an aim to make a Tour start within "six" years and also "by 2032," perhaps to bring expectations into line with the relegation/promotion cycle.
