Stage type: Time trial

What to expect: One week after the first TT comes the second, a 31.2 km affair in Lombardy. The course should suit the specialists, which could also mean that any of the purer climbers hoping to be in the mix for pink could ship quite a bit of time when all is said and done.

Fantasy favorites: Filippo Ganna and Tadej Pogaฤar are the two favorites again for the time trial, and unlike on stage 7, Ganna may have the edge. For one thing, this is a flatter course where Pogaฤar's climbing legs won't be as valuable. For another, it would stand to reason for Pogaฤar to ride a bit more conservatively now that he has such a lead โ€“ although that's not exactly his style is it? Other contenders include Magnus Sheffield, Thymen Arensman, and Geraint Thomas.
