Filippo Ganna delivered on his favorite status to win Tuesday's stage 10 of the Giro d'Italia, a 42 km time trial along the Tyrrhenian coast. The 29-year-old Italian left no doubt on the day, which saw Netcompany-Ineos go one-two as Thymen Arensman secured runner-up honors 1:54 behind his teammate. Rémi Cavagna (Groupama-FDJ United) finished with the third best time, 1:59 down.
Arensman, who powered into third overall with his ride, was the biggest GC winner on a stage that saw some movement and some surprises among the pink jersey hopefuls. Overall Giro favorite Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) made gains on some rivals – especially Felix Gall of Decathlon-CMA CGM – but the Dane did not make the huge surge up the standings that some expected, finishing only 13th on the day.
Meanwhile, overnight leader Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain Victorious) was good enough to maintain his hold on the pink jersey, now sitting 27 seconds ahead of Vingegaard in the overall standings.

How it happened
- Racing got underway in calm conditions in Viareggio, and as a flat time trial in the second week of the race, stage 10 saw most of the purist TT talents among the earlier starters. Max Walscheid (Lidl-Trek), the fifth rider to roll down the ramp, was the best performer of the early goings, setting a mark that stood for half an hour until Sjoerd Bax (Pinarello-Q36.5) went 13 seconds faster.
- All eyes were on Ganna, the favorite to win, when he started a little over an hour into the day. The seven-time Giro stage winner made his intentions known early, cruising to the fastest time at the first time check.
- He only extended his lead the rest of the way, arriving in Massa a whopping 2:04 faster than Bax.
