Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) proved once again why he’s the form rider of this Giro, muscling his way to a hard-fought sprint victory in Vicenza on stage 13. It was his fourth win of the race, and arguably the most difficult, coming at the end of a selective, attritional stage that saw multiple GC flashpoints and a chaotic final chase.
Pedersen surged from behind in the uphill finale, narrowly holding off Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) in a drag race to the line. With the win, Pedersen extended his lead in the ciclamino points classification and continued his dominant sprinting campaign in pink terrain.
Race leader Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) once again impressed, sprinting in for third and collecting time bonuses at both the finish and the final intermediate sprint. The bonus seconds further solidified his grip on the maglia rosa as the Giro moves toward its decisive mountain phases.
The day began with crosswind tension and ended with a flurry of GC and breakaway moves, as multiple teams battled for control across a rolling, technical parcours. A doomed nine-man break, a late resurgence from Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana) and Lorenzo Germani (Groupama-FDJ), and a cagey, fragmented finale all added to the unpredictability of a stage that had something for everyone.
Despite threats from riders like Romain Bardet and Mathias Vacek inside the final 5km, the sprinters’ teams timed the chase to perfection. As the leaders were caught under the flamme rouge, the scene was set for Pedersen, who made no mistake on the final ramp to Vicenza.

"The sprint was really insane. We knew this stage was a bit designed for him, but we also knew that this climb, 700m, so steep, could have been 50/50, especially against the GC guys. But he proved he's really strong." -
-Lidl-Trek sports director Maxime Monfort
