Six months after announcing that the Herald Sun Tour would finally be returning after a five-year hiatus, the event's owners – Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper – have revealed that, in fact, the event won't be returning.
A brief article in Friday's edition of the Herald Sun announced that "a challenged environment for sponsorship and business has made it unviable to stage the tour and to deliver it to the elite, world-class standard required."
