Unbound 2025 bike check: Lachlan Morton's Cannondale Topstone

A close look at the bike that's ready to take on the 350-mile self-supported Unbound XL endurance race.

Josh Weinberg

As discussed in a special edition podcast with EF Pro Cycling athlete Lachlan Morton last month, he has decided not to defend his Unbound 200 title. Instead, Morton will race the 350-mile Unbound XL, which begins at 3:00 pm US Central Time on Friday, May 30.

Morton is known for his extensive experimentation with bike and gear setups, yet in recent years, he seems to have settled on some common themes. Particularly with his endurance rigs.

Interview: Lachlan Morton is racing 2025 Unbound Gravel XL
After taking the top podium spot in last year’s Unbound 200, the Australian pro sets his sights on the self-supported 350-mile ultra endurance category this year in the Flint Hills.

For the Unbound XL, which features a rolling terrain profile rather than prevalent punchy climbs, he's using a Cannondale Topstone with a rigid carbon fork, GRX 2X drivetrain, and a spread of aero and endurance accoutrements.
