Crosswinds threatened to impact the third stage of La Vuelta Femenina, but nothing could come between SD Worx-Protime's Femke Gerritse and her first WorldTour win. The 23-year-old outsprinted Visma-Lease a Bike's Marianne Vos, winner of the second stage, and took the extra bonus seconds to move into the red jersey.
Red jersey wearer Letizia Paternoster (Liv AlUla Jayco) finished seventh on the stage and gave up her race lead on bonus seconds. Going into the fourth stage, Gerritse leads by 12 seconds ahead of Vos, with Paternoster in third on the same time.

How it happened
- After its GC favourite, Neve Bradbury, lost over two minutes on stage 2, Canyon-SRAM Zondacrypto took another hit before the start of the third stage when Chloe Dygert was unable to start due to illness. Georgia Baker (Liv AlUla Jayco) and Laura Lizette Sander (Coop-Repsol) were also not able to start.
- A breakaway of four formed early in the stage, with 123 km to go. They were joined by Lea Lin Teutenberg to make a day-long breakaway of five. They gained almost two minutes before the peloton started to shut down the move. With 35 km to go, three riders remained out front, and the rest had been caught by the bunch.
