Humans have a way of putting off the things we actually need to do. From cleaning out the coffee machine and doing more sit-ups to reducing the likelihood of environmental armageddon and getting government debt under control.
But for us, in our usually cosy little bicycle world, the biggest pile of dirty laundry sitting in the corner is the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
If you don't know what the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is, it's the new name for the Critérium du Dauphiné. The fact that needs to be spelled out really sums up the point we're trying to make here. For months, we made jokes and complained about how ridiculous it was to change the name of the Dauphiné to something new and unwieldy. What we didn't do was actually decide what we were going to do when the race eventually rolled around at the start of June. Well, June is now here and the race kicks off on Sunday. We're out of time to procrastinate. Surely, we can't just call it the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes? Can we?
