Stage 1 of the Tour de France was completed in warm and dry conditions at the popular summer destination of Barcelona, and there were some intriguing cooling tactics on show from some corners of the peloton as the riders prepared for the TTT. Unfortunately for the riders, staff, and organisers, it's only going to get worse as the heatwave dials up to eleven in the coming days.

In fact, there are serious risks to the running of the next few stages due to wildfires in southern France, and code red heat warnings in the Pyrenees-Orientales and Occitanie regions that the race passes through on stages 3 and 4.
