Canyon's updated Aeroad CFR breaks the 200-watt barrier
Canyon has unveiled an updated version of its Aeroad CFR at Eurobike, claiming that the changes to the spec have allowed the bike to dip below the 200-watt benchmark in independent wind tunnel testing.
The figure comes from Tour Magazine’s long-running aerodynamic test protocol, where the latest Aeroad equipped with Canyon’s new CP0053 Race cockpit recorded 198 watts of drag, at 45 km/h with a torso-less mannequin.
According to Canyon, the new one-piece cockpit saves about 2 watts compared to the existing CP0048 bar and reduces weight by 120 grams. The narrower, lower and more aggressively shaped handlebar is designed to help riders adopt a more aerodynamic position, with Canyon claiming real-world rider savings of up to 25 watts.
The update also brings UDH compatibility to the Aeroad platform, improving drivetrain compatibility, allowing SRAM's XPLR gravel derailleurs to be fitted, opening up a greater case for 1X configurations. Additional seatpost, wheel and cockpit options are now available through Canyon’s MyCanyon customisation programme.
