Comments close today on further US tariffs threatening bike imports

US Trade Representative (USTR) has proposed new Section 301 tariffs on 60 countries over forced labour protections. Nearly all major bicycle sourcing countries are included.

Under the new proposal, Taiwan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UK and EU states would face a 10% tariff, while everyone else – including China, Vietnam and Japan – would pay 12.5%. Comments to oppose these tariffs close today, 6 July, with a public hearing scheduled for 7 July.

The USTR has also opened a comment process on"specific types of non-sensitive products that could potentially benefit from tariff modifications". The US bike industry group PeopleForBikes sees this as a chance to exclude bike products from the 25% Section 301 China tariffs altogether, or at least cut the rate.

PeopleForBikes has called on companies to submit comments on both cases and offers templates and more information via its tariff update page and trade and tariff resource hub.
