Seixas is 'a strategic priority' for Decathlon in fight for French phenom's contract
After reports that Pinarello-Q36.5 was ready to offer Paul Seixas a contract in the range of €13 million per year, Le Parisien reports that Seixas' current team, Decathlon-CMA CGM, isn't ready to give up the fight.
Seixas is under contract through 2027, but the bidding war for the 19-year-old talent's services has already started. Decathlon holds one advantage, however, in that it can extend Seixas' contract at any time if they agree on a new deal, where other teams must either wait a year or pay what would undoubtedly be an astronomical buyout fee.
The team certainly is angling to keep its star, with Le Parisien reporting that the team is willing to offer a new contract on par with the pay packages offered by rivals, with management calling Seixas a "strategic priority" for the team's long-term future. Whether that's €13 million a year or something less is unknown, but it's clear that Decathlon isn't going to let its marquee rider leave simply because they didn't pay enough.
