Evenepoel and Lipowitz downplay potential for leadership drama ahead of Tour
Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe has said that Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz will be co-leaders for the Tour de France, and both riders seem committed to towing the party line ahead of the race, refusing to be drawn on questions that might hint at any potential for an intra-team rivalry.
"You want to hear me say I want to be on the podium and hear Florian say he wants to be on the podium," Evenepoel said in answer to a question about each rider's ambitions in a pre-Tour press conference. "Of course, we want to be on the podium, but whether it's him or myself, if we do it in a good way without this negative energy, it's good for both of us and for the team."
He pointed to the potential for them to succeed in working together, having already been co-leaders for Red Bull earlier this year at the Volta a Catalunya. Lipowitz was also optimistic about their ability to collaborate, saying, "We can also show in the Tour now that we can work together and that we will support each other."
