Grégoire wins Tour de Suisse stage 2 as the break narrowly holds on

With race leader Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) and other chasers in view behind them, a handful of breakaway riders held on to contest stage 2 of the Tour de Suisse on Wednesday. Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ United) proved quickest to the finish line in Locarno, taking a clear win ahead of Marcel Camprubí (Pinarello-Q36.5) and Bart Lemmen (Visma-Lease a Bike).

Grégoire and Co. got clear after a furious fight to form the early breakaway, and then they worked to stay clear despite a chasing UAE. Pogačar and Mathias Vaček (Lidl-Trek) left the larger group behind in the finale in pursuit of the leaders but they couldn't quite close down the leaders, leaving the stage to a fast-finishing Grégoire.

Pogačar retains his overall lead and indeed he extended his advantage over his major GC rivals, who finished almost 30 seconds behind him on the day.
