Kim Le Court 'almost gave up on the sport' a decade ago, now she's in yellow

'Ten years ago, I was barely finishing races.'

Amaury Sport Organisation, Cor Vos

On a rainy day in Paris in 2015, the women's peloton lined up for the second edition of La Course by the Tour de France. The race was horrendous, with crashes around every bend. Anna van der Breggen would eventually take victory, but the list of DNFs was long. Among them, 19-year-old Kim Le Court, racing for the British Matrix Fitness team. Within two years, Le Court had stepped away from the road to ride mountain bikes instead.

Little did she know, a decade later she would wear the yellow jersey and lead the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

Two stages into this Tour de France Femmes, the yellow jersey rests on the shoulders of a rider hoping to carry it to the end of the race. Le Court and her AG Insurance-Soudal team went into the Tour with the goal of winning the general classification with Le Court. They are up against teams with bigger budgets and more familiar names, but Le Court has already proven she is capable of greatness. Immediately after the second stage, however, Le Court didn't even know she had taken the lead from Marianne Vos.

"It was chaos," the Mauritian national champion said of the second stage. "I thought today was going to be less chaotic than yesterday, but it was absolute chaos. Today was really difficult in the bunch. A lot of fighting and a lot of screaming, but the finish is a proper finish, everyone was just on the limit, and I just had to kick as hard as I could."
