Landa in talks to end his career at Euskaltel-Euskadi

Mikel Landa is in talks with Spanish ProTeam Euskaltel-Euskadi, according to Deia. This would essentially see him return to where his career began with the original Euskaltel-Euskadi WorldTeam in 2011.

The Basque climber spent two years at the orange-clad Spanish squad until it folded at the end of 2013. It was later resurrected as a Continental team in time for the 2018 season with many of the same personnel involved, including Landa who by that time was a huge name in Spanish cycling having won a handful of Grand Tour stages, and won the mountains classification at the Giro d'Italia. He even acted as president of the Fundacíon Euskadi until the UCI's rules around conflicts of interest forced him to step down in 2021, a year after the team secured its ProTeam contract.

As Landa's rollercoaster tenure at Soudal-QuickStep fizzles out with no expectation of extension, a move to Euskaltel-Euskadi would surely give Landa a chance to end his career as a team leader, and the transfer would likely be mutually beneficial, perhaps even affording the Spanish ProTeam a shot at returning to the Vuelta a España in 2027 for the first time since 2024.
