Narváez wins stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse from the break
A two-man breakaway narrowly managed to hold off the peloton on stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse, with Jhonatan Narváez (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) emerging victorious over fellow escapee Xandro Meurisse (Pinarello-Q36.5).
The pair went clear in the early goings of the 157 km stage that started and finished in Bad Ragaz, and they worked their way to an advantage of four minutes before the peloton upped the tempo. The gap was down under three minutes for the final 30 km, but Narváez and Meurisse collaborated well out front and the chase did not make quite as much progress as expected over the ensuing kilometers. With 10 km to go, it was clear that it would be an extremely tight battle between bunch and break.
In the end, Narváez and Meurisse just managed to stay clear, with Narváez easily winning the sprint for the stage victory. Magnus Cort (Uno-X Mobility) sprinted to third on the same finishing time as the two breakaway riders, with Narváez's UAE teammate Tadej Pogačar finishing safely in the bunch to retain his overall lead.
