Pidcock shows pre-Tour form at Andorra Clàssica, beating Verona and Kuss

A little over a week after withdrawing his name from the Tour de Suisse startlist due to illness, Tom Pidcock has seized the opportunity to prove his climbing form at the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica, out-climbing top talents Carlos Verona and Sepp Kuss, two riders who – like Pidcock – call Andorra home.

"It was not an easy one, hard-fought that's for sure. But it's nice to be able to get your hands in the air, as difficult as it was," Pidcock said at the finish on the Coll de la Botella (Cat.1; 11.4 km at 7%). "I had some difficult weeks, but it's nice to be coming out the other side. It's always a hard time of year, we've been pushing it every bit, and it came back to bite us in terms of training and I needed to make the extra step, so it's nice to that some of it's working."

Pidcock had the help of teammate Chris Harper in the finale, tempting Verona into trying to catch the Pinarello-Q36.5 pair out, and launching Pidcock in the kick to the line.

"Everyone was super strong today, everyone committed 100 per cent," Pidcock said. "So to finish it off for them is really nice. Thank you to them, they committed, they rode all day, everyone did their part, so it's a nice feeling."

Pidcock's next big goal is the Tour de France where his main objective will be scoring a stage win, though he's not planning on sacrificing his GC prospects.
