Simon Yates has announced his retirement from professional cycling with immediate effect.
The 33-year-old Brit had a contract with Visma-Lease a Bike until the end of 2026, but has decided to call time on his career before the start of the upcoming season.
"This may come as a surprise to many, but it is not a decision I have made lightly. I have been thinking about it for a long time, and it now feels like the right moment to step away from the sport," Yates said in a statement released by Visma.
