After eight wonderful days of racing in Italy here's what stood out most.

The Giro d'Italia Women is over for another year and boy did it give us plenty to talk about. Myriad engaging storylines played out during the second Grand Tour of the women's season with the Giro offering just about everything we could have asked for from a big stage race.

We had a tight and intriguing battle for the general classification; we had riders coming back from injury to post career-best results; we had new riders making their mark on the sport. We had exciting and unpredictable racing, we had breakaways thwarting the peloton, and at the end of it all, we had a fan favourite winning on home soil for the second year running, much to the delight of her legion of fans.
