The answer to a question that has swirled for months was finally revealed on Thursday as the UCI announced the provisional suspension of Oier Lazkano, who had not raced since Paris-Roubaix, citing “unexplained abnormalities in his Athlete Biological Passport in 2022, 2023 and 2024.”

The Basque rider was subsequently released by Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe, which had scooped the Classics specialist from Movistar on a three-year contract for the start of the 2025 season. The team’s statement read, “We confirm that Oier Lazkano will no longer be part of our team.”
