Three days after wearing polka dots, Molenaar abandons the Tour following crash
The first few days of this Tour de France were good to Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), who rode into the polka dot jersey on stage 2, but things took a turn for the worse on Wednesday as Molenaar fell hard near the end of stage 5.
Although he was able to get up after the crash, AS reports that the Dutch-born, Barcelona-raised 26-year-old was unable to remember the incident itself. Caja Rural has since announced that Molenaar sustained a hand fracture and is out of the race altogether.
