2026 Tour was the fastest in history
It was yet another Tour de France for the record books as the average speed of the 2026 edition – 43.326 km/h – broke the record set one year prior of 42.849 km/h.
The 2026 Tour also saw the single fastest stage in race history, stage 11, where aggressive riding and a cross/tailwind saw winner Søren Wærenskjold cross the line first after averaging 50.91 km/h. Other records broken include the fastest ascent of Alpe d'Huez, with overall winner Tadej Pogačar knocking more than a minute off the previous best time, set by Marco Pantani in 1995.
