BikeFlights adds RFID labels

Bicycle shipping service Bikeflights has partnered with UPS to introduce a new level of tracking for its bicycle shipments. The company is now offering labels with built-in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to enable real-time tracking.

The tech is widely used in the shipment of organs and vaccines, but has also become common in the logistics of boutique consumer goods. Unlike a traditional barcode that needs to be physically scanned, an RFID label can be read wirelessly from a distance. The goal is to provide a faster shipping experience with greater visibility and more timely information about the bike's location and movements.

Currently, this is only being offered to Bikeflights customers within the USA who purchase a “Request by Mail” label.
