Irish junior racer Shane O'Brien dies in training crash

16-year-old Irish racer Shane O'Brien, a member of the CAMS-Majaco development team that serves as a feeder team for Netcompany-Ineos, died in a training crash on Tuesday.

According to The Irish Times, Waterford police said that the crash "involved a parked lorry and a pedal cyclist." O'Brien had been training for the upcoming Irish national championships when the incident occurred, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

O'Brien's older brother Liam, 21, is a member of Lidl-Trek's development team and a promising prospect as well.

"Shane was a talented rider who had a bright future ahead of him, and was a kind-hearted, gentle and positive young man," his CAMS-Majaco team said in a statement. "We were honoured to have him as a member of the team and he will be forever in our hearts. Our thoughts at this devastating time are with his family, friends, teammates and all who were lucky enough to know him."
