Shimano reorganises bicycle components division

Shimano has announced changes to its bicycle components division leadership. From 1 July, Yuzo Shimano will become the head of the division, stepping up from his current role as a senior executive officer in global marketing.

Yuzo Shimano is a third-generation member of the Japanese company's founding family. He succeeds Taizo Shimano, who ran the division from 2019 until his promotion to company president in 2021. In a press release, Shimano said the reorganisation is intended to "enhance its functions as a development-oriented digital manufacturing company through the appropriate allocation and strengthening of its business management and production management functions."

The announcement comes against a backdrop of declining bicycle component profits for the Japanese component giant. Its latest Q1 results showed bicycle division sales near flat year-on-year – but operating profit in that division fell 46 percent. The fishing division, the company's other half, did the opposite: sales rose 18.5 percent and operating profit nearly 59 percent over the same period.
