Van Aert withdraws from Dauphiné the morning after stage win
Wout van Aert has withdrawn from the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, previously the Critérium du Dauphiné, on the morning of stage 6, the first of three mountains stages that end the Tour de France warm-up race.
Just the previous day, the Belgian and Visma-Lease a Bike were celebrating his stage 5 victory, however, on Friday morning, the team announced on social media that, "He is still experiencing significant discomfort in his elbow due to the crash."
Van Aert will now return home to Belgium for further examinations following his pre-Dauphiné TT training crash. He's next due to race the national championships on 26 June, then the Tour de France from 4 July.
