Lorena Wiebes, winner of stage 3 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, has withdrawn from the race due to illness.
Wiebes’ SD Worx team posted to social media on the morning of stage 5 to announce that the European champion would not continue due to stomach problems.
“Of course this is a loss for Team SD Worx, because there were still sprint opportunities for her,” sports manager Danny Stam said. “But health always prevails.”
Wiebes was among the favourites for both today and tomorrow’s stages, where she was expected to go head to head with her former lead-out rider, Charlotte Kool (DSM-Firmenich). Wiebes’ SD Worx teammate Lotte Kopecky continues to lead the race overall after her solo victory on stage 1.
