Kaitlin Armstrong attempts to escape prior to murder trial

Armstrong ran from corrections officers but was quickly apprehended.

Kaitlin Armstrong, who is scheduled to go to trial on October 30 for the fatal shooting of Moriah “Mo” Wilson, attempted to escape custody on Wednesday.

Armstrong tried to run away from Travis Country corrections officers while leaving a medical office building on Wednesday morning, according to KXAN Austin. She was apprehended after a roughly 10-minute chase. The officers never lost sight of Armstrong throughout the pursuit, a Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson told KXAN.

Armstrong is charged with first-degree murder in relation to the shooting death of Wilson on May 11, 2022. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

She is currently being held in Texas on a $3.5 million bond. She has been in custody since June 29, 2022, when she was apprehended at a hotel in Costa Rica. She was deported back to the United States on July 2, 2022.

The trial was originally scheduled for June 26 of this year but was moved back more than four months to the October date. Additional charges are expected from the escape attempt, but those have not yet been formally added.
