Cat Ferguson out of Tour de France Femmes with double ankle fracture

Movistar's Cat Ferguson will have to wait another year to make her Tour de France Femmes debut. The second-year pro, who has won three races this year, crashed on the opening stage of the Giro d'Italia Women and had to withdraw as the team was concerned about a possible traumatic brain injury.

But in the weeks since, the team said, Ferguson's recovery was hindered by ankle issues, which required medical testing that revealed the presence of a double fracture. The team did not say whether Ferguson would have surgery, but did say that she would require several weeks of recovery to properly heal. As a result, she'll miss this week's British National Championships and won't be able to be in form for the Tour.
