Stage 3 of the Vuelta a España came down to an uphill sprint as expected, but the day's winner was a huge surprise. Groupama-FDJ's David Gaudu pipped pre-stage favorite Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) to get the victory in Ceres, Italy.

Stage 2 winner and overall race leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) was once again involved in the action, finishing third on the day to grab a few bonus seconds and add to his advantage over most of his GC rivals.
