Zwift launches junior team with Tour de France ambitions
Zwift has announced a new North America U19 development team with the stated goal fo putting a North American rider on the top step of the Tour de France podium.
The initiative, led by Zwift's CEO Eric Min and build in partnership with Canyon and Pedal Mafia, will field both men's and women's squads of riders from the US, Mexico, and Canada, racing both in North America and Europe.
The funding model is a bit different to the norm. The intent is to establish an endowment, funding the team for the long term with a mix of Zwift's cash and private donors.
The team will be led by Roy Knickman, and Olympian who raced alongside Greg LeMond at La Vie Claire. The squad is set to officially launch later this year.
