At the first sign of hills, the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift became a race for the yellow jersey, with Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) taking a stunning victory from a group of GC favourites. Le Court-Pienaar won ahead of Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez) and Anna van der Breggen (SD Worx-Protime).
Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) was distanced on the final ascent of the day, so with her win, Le Court-Pienaar also took over the lead of the race. Going into the sixth stage, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Visma-Lease a Bike) sits seconds overall, 18 seconds down, while Vollering is third overall, 23 seconds down.

How it happened
- Since most anticipated Wednesday's stage to be one for the break, the fight to get into a move was rapid from the start. There were also a surprising number of crashes early in the stage. One included green jersey wearer Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), but thankfully, she was able to get back on her bike and continue.
- Eventually, some riders from the usual teams were allowed to slip away from the peloton. Francesca Barale of PicNic-PostNL and Anneke Dijkstra of VolkerWessels. They were chased down by Alison Jackson (EF Education-Oatly) and Catalina Anais Soto (Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi), who had both been in a break on stage 3.
