Tadej Pogačar is deep in his preparation for the Tour de France, where he will once again be the top favourite to take victory, which would earn him membership to a select group of five-time winners. However, before he’s even had a chance to pull on his first yellow jersey of the summer, the Slovenian is stirring the pot of Vuelta a España rumours.
Pogačar has recently completed a pre-Tour altitude training camp at Sierra Nevada, plus reconnaissance of a number of key stages of the Tour de France – and the Vuelta. This has brought his possible return to the Spanish Grand Tour back into sharp focus.
In isolation, there is a lot that makes sense about a 2026 participation. However, there’s almost as much, if not more, that would keep him away yet again.
