Pogačar has been doing recon, but just how likely is his Vuelta participation in 2026?

Tadej Pogačar has trained on some of the climbs featured at this year's Vuelta a España, which seems to suggest it's on his mind at the very least.

Tadej Pogačar is deep in his preparation for the Tour de France, where he will once again be the top favourite to take victory, which would earn him membership to a select group of five-time winners. However, before he’s even had a chance to pull on his first yellow jersey of the summer, the Slovenian is stirring the pot of Vuelta a España rumours.

Pogačar has recently completed a pre-Tour altitude training camp at Sierra Nevada, plus reconnaissance of a number of key stages of the Tour de France – and the Vuelta. This has brought his possible return to the Spanish Grand Tour back into sharp focus.

In isolation, there is a lot that makes sense about a 2026 participation. However, there’s almost as much, if not more, that would keep him away yet again.
