Sprint star Charlotte Kool has made an abrupt mid-season transfer from Picnic-PostNL to Fenix-Deceuninck, both teams announced on Friday. The 26-year-old Dutchwoman still had a further season left on her contract with Picnic, but she is now signed on through 2028 with Fenix. Today was the final day of the UCI's newly instituted mid-season transfer window.
"I'm ready for a new chapter in my career. From the very first conversation with the team, I had an immediate and genuinely good feeling about their mentality, and the trust they've placed in me," Kool said in a statement shared by her new team.
"Of course, making a move halfway through the season comes with its challenges, but it feels right."
Picnic's messaging around the surprise move, meanwhile, is harder to parse.
